The Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the family-friendly Frontier Days on Oct. 15 at the Lazy Lizard Ranch, 35535 Highway 18. The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., recalls Lucerne Valley's early days, providing families with a day of fun, including food, vendors and other activities, like the chili cook off, horseshoe contest, and carnival games.
The barbecue, featuring hamburgers and hotdogs, will open around 11 a.m. A live country-western band will provide music and the Roy Rogers Re-enactment troop will perform. Additionally, the Lucerne Valley Citizens On Patrol (COPS) Unit 414 of San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department will host a finger printing of children from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“One of the highlights of the day is the jailhouse,” said Woody Hart, President of the Chamber. “We send out a sheriff with a warrant for someone’s arrest, and round them up and put them in jail.” After a short time the “offender” gets released, and then they in turn arrange for a new warrant to put someone else in jail. “It’s great fun, and actually a good money maker,” Hart added.
Another popular activity for kids is shooting black powder guns. “There are no bullets, just air to pop balloons,” explained Hart. “The kids just love it,” he said.
Vendor spaces are available for $15. There is a $10 entry fee for the horseshoes and a $5 fee for the chili cook off.
