Roadrunners: Clarice Peterson installed as Roadrunners president

On Monday, Feb. 2, Shirley Clemmons installed the following as L.V. Roadrunners, Inc. New Officers and Board of Directors. Clarice Peterson, President, Pam Hart, Vice-President, Avy Hayes, Secretary, Jo Richards, Treasurer and Directors, Jody Collingham, Marie Scafidi, Jean Fuqua, Sharon Cross and Pat Lugo.

This June the Roadrunners will be 40 years old. The organization was founded in June, 1975. It was then known as the Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce. July 4, 1976, they organized the fireworks to celebrate our country's 200th year and continued to raise money for the fireworks until around ten years ago when CSA 29 took over the job.

In 1985, Jane Ewing, who was the school's nurse, asked the Roadrunners to furnish refreshments and she and the teachers furnished gifts for deserving children and that was the Roadrunners' first school Christmas party. Lona Malone and Isie Clark started Good Neighbors and that organization furnished clothes toys and after they closed down the Roadrunners took over. At that time we also did boxes of food and when that task became too much of an undertaking we had to do away with the food.

The Roadrunners incorporated in 2000. We are and always have been involved in the Easter Egg hunt at Pioneer Park, the scholarship fund, the May Great Worm race, the tailgate in October. The Bike Run, raising Christmas toys for the needy children, the Christmas Party where we give out filled Christmas stockings and the toy, food Christmas give away. Our next bake sale will be March 26, just in time for Easter.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the individuals and businesses that have supported us over the years. We would not be able to accomplish what we do without your help.
