Quality Treasures Thrift & More is now open in the Lucerne Valley Shopping Center.
The store's opening is the result of three Lucerne Valley couples wanting to expand on their already busy, ongoing garage sale activity.
"We graduated from yard sales to our own shop," said Miles Walters, a furniture craftsman who is joined by his wife Leslie Poe Walters, a well-known local advertising expert.
The couples pooled their resources and opened up a diverse collection in a spacious store front that previously housed Lucerne Lapidary & Leather. The latter recently moved to a ranch location in eastern Lucerne Valley.
"It would be tough to do it individually," Walters added.
Walters takes classic, sometimes antique, headboards and makes them into eye-catching, one-of-a-kind benches. Not only does he perform the woodwork on the fine furniture, but the upholstery of each of the pieces is created by Walters.
Leslie Walters, meanwhile, specializes in smaller items, including a large selection of classic cannisters and containers.
Johnny and Sherri Brown "have this and that," according to Sherri. "It's quality stuff."
Affordably priced merchandise ranges from colorful china dinner plates, a large selection of DVDs, which are priced to go at $1.50 each or four for $5. Music CD's are $1 each.
Another vendor specializes in jewelry and watches, and also provides health and wellness products.
Additional items at Quality Treasures include hand tools (starting at only 50 cents each), pre-owned clothing, watch batteries, purses and wallets and other knick knacks and collectables.
"I'm excited," said Leslie Walters. "I think it's going to do well when people know where we're at."
Her husband Miles is also looking forward to how their business develops.
"We'll see how it goes," he said.
Quality Treasures' grand opening is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 7-8. Stay tuned for more information.
