The Lucerne Valley Mustangs football team had a difficult time handling the Joshua Springs Christian Lightning squad, losing non-conference game 48-12 at home.
Hundreds were in attendance as Joshua Springs got off quickly scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter. But Joshua Springs Christian turned over possession on downs. Lucerne Valley had the ball on their own 32-yard line and scored on a pass to make it 14-6.
In the second quarter, Joshua Springs scored on a five-yard touchdown by Connor McClay followed by a successful two point conversion making the score 22-6.
After a long pass, McClay again ran for a touchdown, this time an 8-yarder. Following a two-point conversion, the score was 30-6. After another Lightning TD, the teams went into their locker rooms at halftime with the score 36-6.
Joshua Springs scored a few more times, then, with seven minutes to go, Lucerne Valley scored on a 16-yard pass completed Brandon Miller for a TD. bring the score to 48-12.
The Mustangs are now 0-1. Lucerne Valley has an away non-conference game at Trona on Friday, Sept. 9. The game starts at 7 p.m.
