LUCERNE VALLEY — To say there is a lot going on in Lucerne Valley this week is an understatement.

The last week of school means that students will be moving up and, in the case of high school seniors, moving on. The elementary will hold its 6th grade promotion on Tuesday. Kindergartners also had a promotion this week; next year those big little kids will be in first grade.

At the high school/middle school, middle schoolers had their promotion, and the big event of the week, the graduation of the LVHS Class of 2016, will take place on Friday at 5 p.m.

But that's just for starter.

The Honorary Mayor candidates Chief Ron Scriven and mixed-martial arts fighter and actor Mavrick Von Haug (a.k.a. Mavrick Harvey) will each hold big events on Saturday. Chief Ron's big bash featuring a barbecue, karaoke and more will start at Noon at the Lazy Lizard Ranch. The whole town is invited to this fundraising event. The Lazy Liard Ranch is located 35300 Richard Street. Go south on Highway 18 toward Big Bear and watch for the sign on the right.

Then, at 1 p.m., Mavrick will be giving away hundreds of pairs of shoes to deserving youngsters. Mavrick's previous bicycle giveaway event attracted an overflow crowd, so get there early. The event will take place at Mavrick's White Elephant Thrift Store at 32740 Old Woman Springs Road.

But that's not all. On Memorial Day, Monday, congressional candidate Tim Donnelly, who has hosted a radio show on AM960, will be the guest speaker at the town's ceremony at Lucerne Valley Memorial Park. The event starts at 10. All are invited.

Jean Magee will welcome the audience, and Lloyd Schultz will serve as event emcee. Chief Ron will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Other noted residents also will participate.

There's even more coming up this week. On Friday, the LVES Boosters will host the annual End of the Year Carnival at Lucerne Valley Elementary School.

On the lighter side is the monthly Classic Car Gathering, this time at Burger Depot at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Earlier in the week, on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Lucerne Valley Club House will celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month with an open house lunch event. All are welcome. Call Renee or Diane at (760) 248-2327 if you plan on attending. The Clubhouse is located in the Lucerne Valley Shopping Center.

Get ready for a fun time, and be safe out there.
