LUCERNE VALLEY — Williams, Jr., an 8th-grader at Lucerne Valley Middle School, recently was awarded fifth place in the Desert Heritage Writing Contest.
Walter's three-page writing entry was a sequel to the first-quarter novel "Very Far Away From Anywhere Else." His piece, "Nowhere To Be Seen," competed against 1,081 other entries.
On Saturday, April 23, Walter and his family traveled to Barstow College so he could be awarded during a ceremony. The student has been working hard this year and hopes to join a group of students on the annual trip to Washington, D.C. next year.
